Photo Repair and Alterations

Saving the planet...One pixel at a time!

Photos are one of the largest requests we receive to include on Websites. Although, a great deal of the time, the pictures supplied to us are not of the best quality. In most cases this is not the end of the world as we can make repairs or alter the content slightly to make the photo shine like new.

Sometimes the photo itself is just fine, but someone or something is in the photo that they would rather not be there. We can target one person or item in the photo and remove it and alter the content around it to make it appear as if it were never there. Likewise, we can remove everything but the target item/person in the photo and make it appear as if the target item/person is somewhere else entirely. Some examples of both are below.

Note: Custom Graphics are widely used as well. More Information about custom graphics can be viewed here.

Marines NHRA CarPhoto Alteration 1: US Marines - NHRA Pro Stock (Larry Nance)

About this piece: This photo was developed for the United States Marine Corps. They had a NHRA (National Hotrod Association) Pro-Stock car that they were getting ready to sponsor. The car they had built was painted, but it was the wrong color, had no logos on it, etc. etc. They were in dire need to show off the car at an upcoming event and did not have the time needed to finish the actual car.

That's where we came in: received the photo (Marked "Original Photo") with instructions for how they would like for it to look. These instructions were as follows:

Design specs recieved from USMC for the car: "...Make car body red. Use official USMC lettering (Attached) on the door and hood just below the scoop. Place "USMC Seal" (Attached) on the lower hood between headlights and just below "Marines" lettering. The rest I will leave up to the artist's discretion, however, do NOT add any other artwork such as flames, etc. Larry does have a couple f small logos he would like added however. One is a sponsor (Place on front quarter panel) and "Say No to Drugs!" logo (Place on scoop if you can make it fit ok). Both are attached..."

Footnote: Upon receiving the "doctored" photo, the officer in charge of the project thought that the car was already painted and wrote me an email saying he did not need the "Photo Alterations" done as it appears it has already been painted. Needless to say, when he found out it was a "doctored photo" he was very pleased with the work we did! :-)

Poster design for USMC - NHRA Pro Stock Car. Removed car from photo and placed it in this design.

About this piece: We completed the first photo alteration (Example #1) in 1 day. This left the Marines with 3 days to spare before the event. I was immediately contacted again with the idea of removing the altered car from the photo and placing it on a black background with the USMC Globe and Anchor logo. They said they could have some posters printed in one day and if I could design the poster in one day they would still have a whole day to arrive and set-up the event booth. We said "No problem" and delivered this piece (to the left) and two others for them to choose from in 1 day. As you can see we went a little farther than just the black background in this one, adding lighting and "peeling" the page back to reveal the logo. They loved this one and ran with it.

Photo RepairPhoto Repair 1: Reapired dark scratchy image, made corrections, removed unwanted image (Step Ladder), cleaned floors and painted walls.

About this piece: Top photo is the original. As you can see it is dark and scratchy.

Request Received: "...Can you do anything with this? I do not have a very good camera. This is one of the better ones believe it or not. Can you get rid of that step ladder which is beside the lit up display on the left hand side as well? ..."

Repairs made: The obvious first step was to brighten up the photo and clean up the fuzzy scratched as best we can. Next, we "painted" his walls, cleaned the entire floor, removed several "spots/stains" from the floor, and removed the step ladder as requested. We also added from fresh light bulbs to the back display.
